17 km hike: In search of 4th Tan Aunt
A late 1928 map of Pulau Ubin shows that the Wee Cheng Soon Estate spread over nearly third of the island from its South to North-West. The estate comprised granite quarries and rubber plantation. Vegetables and fruits like durians, pineapples and rambutans were also grown on the estate. On Saturday, 10 Nov 2018, Tanya Pillay, the great grand-daughter of David Wee Cheng Soon, and I hiked 17 km along the Southern perimeter of Wee’s former estate, culminating in a spectacular view of Ketam Quarry lake where Wee’s quarries once stood.
