Tan-Li(New) The surname “Li” was sometimes spelt as “Lye”, “Ly” and “Lee”, depending on which priest was recording the specific sacramental events.  It may also have slipped into “Lim” but for now, we have not assumed that “Lim” was “Li”. The Li Family’s connection with the Tans goes back to the late-1800s.  In 1875, Lucia Tan Gek Luan (1857-), Pedro Tan’s daughter by his second wife Anna Lim Ah Kiao, married Petrus Lye Song Keng, the son of Johannes Lye Ah Piang and Maria Buko.
